Today it is the heart of champagne production, most of the most well known champagne-producing houses, or "Les Grandes Marques", like Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Martel and Taittinger which have their headquarters in Reims, and are open for tasting and tours of their ellars. Champagne ages in the many caves and tunnels under Reims, which form a sort of maze below the city, carved from chalk.

Today, Reims is the headquarters for some of most world famous champagne brands Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Pommery, Taittinger, and Krug. Their Champagnes age in a maze of chalk caves and tunnels under Reims, which you can visit on a Cellar Tour and discover the history of the brand, and a step by step guide to Champagne production from pressing, fermentation, blending, bottling, remuage, disgorgement, corking and labelling to the final glass of champagne served at the end of the tour.

Reims UNESCO Cathedral

Another highlight is the Cathedral of Reims. The UNESCO Cathedral of Our Lady ( Notre Dame ) in Reims is one of France's great masterpieces of Gothic art Construction started in 1211 and was the cathedral of coronations for French kings in memory of the baptism of Clovis by Saint Remi, probably on Christmas Day 498.

Drive through the picturesque countryside and villages of the Reims Mountains en route to your first family vineyard visit.
