Once on board your guide will explain the concept of terroir, the main grape varieties used to make Champagne, the vines through the seasons and wine making "from grape to Champagne”.
Unlike other shared tours this will be a more intimate discovery of the champagne making process from pressing, first fermentation, blending, bottling, second fermentation, remuage, disgorgement, corking and finally labelling. You will have an opportunity to speak with the wine growers themselves and taste high quality premier and grand cru champagnes.
Your tour includes:
The day will begin with a visit to the pretty little village of Hautvillers which the local residents like to call the Cradle of Champagne and Dom Perignon as its most famous inhabitant who magically discovered Champagne. Nothing could be further from the truth but it makes for good copy and by all accounts he did contribute significantly to the art of wine blending. To match these quality tastings it is only appropriate that lunch will be hosted in a gastronomic restaurant.
